Weekly writings :: in the form of an intellectual journal. Please set aside time each week to write, and always think ahead of time about the direction of your intellectual journal. What do you want to say? Etc. Now, what I want from an intellectual journal is simple: a first-person narration of your readings and reflections from the week.

1. The first-person format is intended to access your writerly and thinking voice. I want you to speak from your own perspective to communicate your engagement.

2. The journal part is to document your growth as a thinker about the given issues in this independent study. As you read and write, you’ll find your reflections growing in terms of both depth and breadth.

3. The intellectual part is the most important. I expect you to engage the texts both in terms of explanation/clarification of central concepts AND critical assessment. So, the intellectual part of “intellectual journal” is to mark the blend of first-person and standard essay-writing mentality.

I look forward to reading your writing. And always let me know if you’re stuck on where to start. I’m always happy to ask some prompting questions.
